Description

In the Canadian Armed Forces, the maroon beret is the traditional mark of airborne-qualified troops. It was historically worn by the elite Canadian Airborne Regiment (1968–1995) and remains in use today by any Regular Force infantry, engineer, or artillery personnel who have passed basic parachutist courses and are posted to jump-designated units.

  • Canadian Airborne Regiment: Formed in 1968, this rapid-deployment unit adopted the maroon beret to symbolize its elite airborne status. It saw action in Cyprus and Somalia before its disbandment in 1995.
  • Current Parachutists: Today, the maroon beret is not tied to a single, specific regiment. Instead, it is authorized for any soldier who holds active Jump Pay. When worn, personnel pair the maroon beret with the cap badge of their own specific regiment (e.g., The Royal Canadian Regiment, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry).
  • Historical Origins: The tradition dates back to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in World War II, which adopted the maroon beret worn by British airborne forces.

100% Wool with leather trim sweatband, made in Toronto by Parkhurst for (Logistiks Unicorp) the CF.

Cotton liner and stiffener board for pin backs and a channel for the cap brasses.
